Introduction to Indore’s Giant Shrines

Over the decades, Indore has developed a reputation for housing larger-than-life metal and clay statues of Hindu deities. These sites combine ancient Maratha-era heritage with modern metal craftsmanship, attracting millions of spiritual travelers annually.

Bada Ganpati: The Giant 25-Foot Ganesha

Built in 1875 by Shri Dadhich, the Bada Ganpati temple is world-famous for its massive Lord Ganesha idol:

  • The Size: The idol stands approximately 25 feet tall from the base.
  • The Materials: Uniquely, the idol is not made of stone or metal. It was constructed using a traditional mixture of brick, limestone, water from holy rivers, soil collected from seven sacred cities, and raw gold, silver, and copper elements.

Pitra Parvat: The Hill of Ancestors and Hanuman Statue

Pitra Parvat is a newly developed green hilltop park on the outskirts of Indore:

  • The Statue: It houses a massive, 72-foot-tall sitting statue of Lord Hanuman made of eight metals (*Ashtadhatu*), weighing over 108 tons.
  • The Theme: Built to encourage people to plant trees in memory of their ancestors (*Pitra*), the entire hill has been converted into a green forest park.

💡 The TPH Advantage

Pitra Parvat involves a hilltop drive and some walking around the park. We provide private AC vehicles that drive you directly to the hilltop parking and coordinate battery-operated carts for seniors, ensuring a comfortable visit.
