Overview of Ralamandal Sanctuary

Spread over 5 square kilometers, Ralamandal is a rich green pocket containing bamboo groves, teak forests, and eucalyptus trees. It serves as a natural habitat for several wild animal species and serves as an excellent weekend trekking destination for fitness lovers.

Location, Timings, and Entry Fee

  • Location: Mirjapur Village, Off Bypass Road, Indore (approx. 12 km from city center).
  • Timings: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily.
  • Entry Fee: Approximately ₹20 per person (camera and vehicle parking fees are separate).

💡 The TPH Advantage

The climb up the hill is about 2.5 km. For families traveling with small children or seniors who cannot walk the entire distance, we coordinate battery-operated golf carts or special vehicle entry passes to reach the hilltop lodge comfortably.

The Uphill Trekking Trail Options

  • The Paved Route: A wide, paved road winding up the hill. This route is very smooth and safe for families and morning walkers.
  • The Forest Trail: A narrow, unpaved nature trail cutting directly through the trees. Perfect for adventure seekers wanting a slightly steeper climb.
  • Distance: Approx. 2.5 km from the base gate to the hilltop (takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to climb).

Wildlife Spotting: Deer, Birds, and Orchards

  • Animals: The sanctuary features a fenced Deer Park at the base. Wild rabbits, blue bulls (*Nilgai*), peacocks, and barking deer roam freely in the forest.
  • Birds: Spot babblers, woodpeckers, tree pies, and eagles nesting in the tall bamboo trees.

The Historic Hilltop Hunting Lodge (1905)

At the peak of the hill sits a beautiful stone hunting lodge built in 1905 by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar:

  • The lodge has been converted into an educational information center, displaying historic wildlife photos and maps.
  • The View: The watchtower terrace behind the lodge offers panoramic views of the Indore city skyline and the surrounding Vindhya valleys.

Trekking Safety Rules for Families

  • Stay on the Paths: Do not venture off the marked trails into the deep forest brush.
  • Carry Water: Carry your own water bottles as there are no shops inside the sanctuary.
  • Do Not Feed Animals: Feeding monkeys or deer is strictly prohibited by forest laws.
